Hi!
My name is Rosie Thomas-Wiley, known as Ms. Wiley to my students. I moved to the Mt. Hood/Parkdale in 1991 with my husband, Don. We are so grateful to have raised our sons, Sam and Jesse, in this amazing area. We are a family with a love for the outdoors and a bit of adventure, including activities like paddle boarding, Nordic skiing, hiking, biking, camping, traveling, and snorkeling. Personally, one of my true loves is cooking. I love great food and trying to make cuisines from around the world.
I came to teaching after two other careers; one as a land use planner for the County and City of Hood River and the other as the director for our local United Way. Teaching has always been my calling and I find it both incredibly challenging and rewarding. After subbing in Hood River County for a couple of years, I worked for seven years at Chenowith Elementary in The Dalles. There I taught English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for five years and 3rd grade for two years. In 2015, it was my good fortune to join the staff at Parkdale Elementary as a 1st grade teacher. After three years teaching 1st grade, I graduated to 2nd grade in 2018.
As for education, I think I am a good example of a "life long" learner! I have a Master of Education from Portland State, where I also obtained my ESOL endorsement, plus a Reading Endorsement from Lewis and Clark College. Prior to pursuing teaching, I obtained a Master of Science in Agricultural and Resource Economics from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Students and Cultural Anthropology from University of California at Santa Barbara.
Thanks for visiting this site. I hope to see you in person at Parkdale Elementary School. Go Mountaineers!
